Did you know:

  • Americans use 88 billion plastic bags per year. Those bags take 12 million barrels of oil to produce.

  • Paper bags require even more energy to produce and transport than plastic.

  • Only 1 to 3 of plastic bags end up getting recycled.

  • Plastic bags and plastic bottles are two of the most prevalent sources of pollution found on our beaches.

Action Steps:

  • Buy and Use reusable bags. Make sure you work out a method so you actually use them!

  • Reduce the number of plastic bags you get at the store. Ask yourself if you really need a bag or can carry out the item! Bring in your own bag!

  • Recycle your plastic and paper shopping bags.

Why I don't use a market/reusable bag:

  • It's not attached to my neck.

  • I forgot it in the car.

  • I only have a couple reusable bags and usually need more- so I don't bother.

  • I feel like I'm the only one using it!

  • It seems like it could be harder for the cashier to use.

  • Not big enough.

  • It's easier not to use them.
