National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS):

The mission of the NIEHS is to reduce the burden of human illness and disability by understanding how the environment influences the development and progression of human disease.  NIEHS focuses on basic science, disease-oriented research, global environmental health, and multidisciplinary training for researchers.

US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA):

The EPA establishes and enforces environmental protection standards; Conducts environmental research; Provides assistance to others combating environmental pollution.

National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH):

CDC's National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH) strives to promote health and quality of life by preventing or controlling those diseases or deaths that result from interactions between people and their environment.

U. S. Geological Survey (USGS):

The USGS focuses on biology, geography, geology, geospatial information, and water, to provide timely, relevant, and impartial study of the landscape, our natural resources, and the natural hazards that threaten us.

Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry:

The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) is a federal public health agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. ATSDR serves the public by providing health information to prevent harmful exposures and diseases related to toxic substances.

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH):

NIOSH is the Federal agency responsible for conducting research and making recommendations for the prevention of work-related disease and injury. NIOSH is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). NIOSH is responsible for conducting research on occupational disease and injury ranging from lung disease in miners to carpal tunnel syndrome in computer users.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA):

The Federal Emergency Management Agency - a former independent agency that became part of the Department of Homeland Security in 2003 - is tasked with responding to, planning for, recovering from and mitigating against disasters.

TOXMAP - Environmental Health E-Maps:

TOXMAP is a Geographic Information System (GIS) from the U.S. National Library of Medicine  that uses maps of the United States to help users visually explore data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s Toxics Release Inventory.

Children's Environmental Health Network:  

The Children's Environmental Health Network is a national multi-disciplinary project whose mission is to promote a healthy environment and protect the fetus and the child from environmental health hazards.

The mission of the American Lung Association (ALA) is to prevent lung disease and promote lung health by helping those who are already affected by disease, by searching for cures and better treatments, and by protecting our lungs from the threat of environmental hazards.
