Pilot Project Program Guidelines

The goal of the University of Rochester Environmental Health Sciences Center is to define the scope of the contributions of environmental and occupational toxic agents to disease and dysfunction and to understand the mechanisms by which they occur. It strives to provide a sound scientific basis for evaluating the health risk(s) posed by chemical exposures to human populations, and ultimately to prevent their occurrence. This is accomplished through activities of four research cores that stimulate interdisciplinary research in (1)neurotoxicology, (2)pulmonary toxicology, (3)osteotoxicology and (4)protein modulators of toxicity. The research activities of these four research cores are supported by four service cores: (1)Pathology/Morphology/Imaging, (2)Biostatistics Core, (3)University Facilities Core, and (4)Shared Instrumentation. Funding decisions for the Pilot Project Program are based on scientific merit, relevance of the research to the goals of the Center, and the potential for new insights into the problems of environmental health that are aimed at filling gaps in the Center's program. Questions concerning the relevance of a proposed research topic should be directed to the Director of the Pilot Project Program, Dr. Jacob Finkelstein at 275-5220.
